Organics bin trial coming to Rockhampton
Council is set to make an exciting step toward a zero waste future with plans to roll out a trial for a kerbside organics bin later this year.
The trial is made possible thanks to funding from the Queensland Government.
Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams said this is a very exciting opportunity for our region.
“I really want to thank the Queensland Government for enabling us to roll out this trial,” Mayor Williams said.
“At the moment organic matter is taking up more than half the average kerbside general waste bin.
“Not only is this bad for the environment, it really is a waste when this matter can be recovered and turned into soil, mulch and compost. ....

One more ibis has made its home at the Lakes Creek Road Waste Management Facility – but this tip turkey is set to help reinvent the ways we think about waste.
It’s been just over a month since social enterprise Resource Recovery Australia (RRA) opened the doors of the ‘Reviva Ibis’ reuse store, and in a short time they’ve made a big impact through their ‘#Waste2Wages’ business model.
Waste and Recycling Councillor Shane Latcham said the ibis makes the perfect mascot for the new reuse store.
“We’re quick to talk trash about ibis – just like we are about our rubbish – but it’s time we change our mind on both,” said Cr Latcham. ....

Exciting changes ahead for Rocky’s reuse shop
The Lakes Creek Road Waste Management Facility (LCRWMF) reuse store is about to get an upgrade, with social enterprise Resource Recovery Australia (RRA) ready to set up shop.
Waste and Recycling Councillor Shane Latcham said he was excited to see the changes ahead for the well-loved reuse store.
“For the last 5 years we have worked very closely with Queensland Metal Recyclers (QMR) in running the Trendy Trash store, and we would really like to thank their staff for all of their work and efforts over those years,” said Cr Latcham. ....

Beef Capital crowned Queensland's 'Tidy Town'


ROCKHAMPTON Regional Council has been named the overall winner of the Keep Australia Beautiful 2020 Queensland Sustainable Communities Tidy Towns award.
The judges commented Rockhampton delivered a range of well planned and executed projects demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability and the community across all awards categories, making the town highly deserving of the win.
Running nationally since 1990, the awards have evolved to encompass projects and initiatives with a focus on environmental sustainability and resource management to reflect a growing awareness of the importance of community-led environmental action.
The awards recognise the hard work undertaken by regional towns, councils, individuals and groups and share these best practices and ideas to continue to improve rural towns. ....
