Public opinion has flipped, with the majority of americans now looking favorably upon ford s decision. but it demands a reexamination in light of donald trump s historic federal indictment. and the prospect of more to come. ford pardon of nixon was a bandage for a wound that required sutures. trump has reopened that wound. it, it s debatable whether a man as shameless as richard nixon, like donald trump himself, would have been humbled by the threat of a possible conviction. but maybe a ford had let the process play out, nixon would ve been made an example, and donald trump would not now be under the notion that presidents get special treatment under the law. maybe nixon himself could ve been convinced that there are limits to presidential powers, and maybe when he sat down for an interview with the british journalist, david frost, several years later, after watergate, in 1977, nixon wouldn t have professed his belief that quote, when the president doesn t, that means it s not illegal. ....

After two weeks of protests, the man accused of killing 24-year-old jordan neely in a subway has been charged. daniel penny, a former marine, seen on video placing neely in a fatal chokehold will face second degree manslaughter charge, just one of them. neely s death has prompted a reexamination on how big cities treat the homeless and mentally ill. it is a reckoning neely s family pleaded for this morning. we cannot allow that type of aggression on a whim s notice. we cannot allow that type of judgment and we cannot allow that type of crime to happen without consequences. so on behalf of the family, we are asking for everyone to continue to support the process of justice moving forward because that s the only thing that s going to change the way that we look at people who are houseless, the way we look at people who are in distress, and the way that we look at one another. joining me now is nbc news ....

Overriding mental health issues that led her to do what she did. do you expect that there will have been a trail of clues here that either were missed but were found upon reexamination or simply were not acted on for whatever reason? you know, john, in these cases certainly hate to get ahead of ourselves in these investigations. there are a couple things that kind of jump out at me. one is that this woman was carrying two assault weapons, you know, with her, which means kind of in the intent and plan around this. i would not expect those were just sitting in the back of a vehicle or rarely accessible in the moment she came upon the school. and perhaps knowledge of where the door was to come in. unless we find out later other attempts were made trying to get into the school and happened to find that door open, kind of what happened down in uvalde where the door was propped open or found to be open. ....

And what specifically they re doing around getting crime under control. but being abusive, being violent and certainly killing anyone is not the answer at all. and not only should they be looked at, but throughout the country and i think that sparks the debate and that reexamination and i hope something positive comes out of it. and chief ramsey, the house judiciary committee chairman jim jordan has said, i believe this morning, he does not think that there is any law or training or reform that could be done or put in place to prevent what we saw happen to tyre nichols. do you agree? do we need to have another national conversation about the way policing is done in this country, and nationalize some of these standards? absolutely. we need to have the conversation. there needs to be some standard set for training and for certification and decertification of officers. a centralized data base for officers that are fired or leave ....
