Vico Sotto chosen as one of 12 global anti-corruption champions

PASIG City Mayor Vico Sotto has been selected as one of 12 global anti-corruption champions by the United States Department of State.
Sotto, 31, was cited for his commitment to transparency initiatives both as a Pasig city councilor and as mayor.
As a Pasig City councilor in 2018, Sotto spent a month at the Des Moines Public Information Board in Des Moines, Iowa, as part of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Professional Fellows Program in the United States.
“He used this experience to help him design and pass Pasig’s first freedom of information legislation when he returned to the Philippines,” the US Embassy in the Philippines said in a statement. ....

DILG lauds Senate for setting public hearings on economic amendments


CALOOCAN CITY, Jan. 26 (PIA)  The Senate’s first public hearing on the proposed lifting of the protectionist provisions of the Constitution on Wednesday, Jan. 27, is a big leap to make the 1987 Constitution responsive to the current needs of the country, according to the Inter-Agency Task Force on Constitutional Reform (IATF-CORE) headed by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
 
The IATF-CORE lauded the Senate’s decision to tackle pending proposals to amend certain provisions in the 1987 Constitution as proposed by Senators Francis Tolentino, Ronald de la Rosa, and Richard Gordon.
 
“The start of public hearings in the Senate is an important step in revisiting the provisions of the Charter and make it more responsive to our current need which is to restart and boost the economy this year,” DILG Undersecretary and Spokesperson Jonathan Malaya said. ....
