The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has cautioned Indians seeking a job offer abroad to not overpay service fee to overseas recruitment agents. This is because it was noticed that individuals were paying money to the tune of Rs 2 to 5 lakh for overseas job offers.
The US authorities "encountered" with over 200,000 illegal Indian immigrants in the last five years with the highest cases of 96,917 reported in 2022-23, according to details furnished in Parliament by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The MEA disclosed that many of these unscrupulous agents conduct their operations through social media platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp, as well as text messages. These agents often provide scant or no information about their locations and contacts, preferring communication solely through WhatsApp, making it challenging to verify the caller's identity and the legitimacy of the job offer.
