A group of new firefighters from the Charleston Fire Department have been using the former CASCI building for training prior to its demolition next week.
The training gave the firefighters an opportunity to use tools and equipment for what they are designed to do while in a safe and controlled environment, Hodges explained.
Demolition of the CASCI building at 200 Kanawha Blvd. East in downtown Charleston is scheduled for early next week, according to Rodney Loftis, owner of Charleston-based Rodney Loftis & Son Contracting.
After the demolition, Remington Development Corp., a Canadian company, will develop the property into a four-story, 120,000-square-foot building. The building also includes an 18,000-square-foot annex with a loading dock and a 1,500-square-foot rooftop patio. The building will be located closer to Virginia Street, and will face Kanawha Boulevard, East. There will be 124 parking spots on site.
