Opponents of ‘Back the Blue’ bill question intentions as proponents push for more support for law enforcement
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) -A ‘Back the Blue’ bill advancing in the state legislature has some opponents calling it a step back, while lawmakers supporting the bill believe it’s necessary legislation to support law enforcement.
People gathered in protest all over the country following the death of George Floyd last May, including Eastern Iowa. In Cedar Rapids, thousands laid down in 1st Avenue downtown. In Iowa City, protestors made their way onto Interstate 80 more than once. State lawmakers are pushing to increase penalties for people who gather in streets or highways moving forward as part of the ‘Back the Blue’ bill.
