Sign Up Environment Secretary Roseanna Cunningham’s decision not to seek nomination as an SNP candidate for the 2021 Scottish Parliament elections has cast political minds back to her historic victory in a Westminster by-election 26 years ago. On May 25, 1995, in a by-election called following the death of sitting Tory MP Sir Nicholas Fairbairn, Ms Cunningham was first elected to represent the Perth and Kinross constituency where she turned a 2094 Conservative majority into a 7311 majority for the SNP.
