Construction is set to begin on a nearly $25 million development of townhomes and vacation rentals in Silver Bay, the first of several projects to reinvent the city originally built as a mining company town. The long term aim is to bring more visitors and residents to Silver Bay to diversify its economy and, perhaps, embrace a new identity.

Robert Geroge Thomas, 84, of Cook, MN passed away peacefully on November 14, 2023. Robert was born June 16, 1939 in Virginia, MN to Donovan and Elsie (Laine) Thomas. He grew up in Linden Grove township and graduated from Cook High School in 1957. He also graduated from Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis in 1961, where he learned a welding trade. Dan was born the youngest of three children on January 3rd, 1953, at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, CO to Lt. Col. (Ret.) Daniel J. Murphy II and 1st Lt. (Ret.) Ruth Elinor Murphy.
