The National Judicial Council (NJC) has been petitioned by the Open Justice Alliance (OJA), a coalition of four civil societies, to probe Justices Monica Dongban-Mensem, Oluwayemisi Wimmiams-Dawodu, Abdulaziz Waziri, and Okon Abang, who are Justices of the Court of Appeal. The petition accused the Appeal Court judges, who presided over the Plateau State governorship and House of Assembly elections, of “gross abuse of the Revised Judicial Code of Conduct for Judicial Officers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2016.”

The groups say their petition highlights concerns about the integrity of the Nigerian judiciary, specifically focusing on a series of incidents of judicial capture in Nigeria.

  A coalition of five civil society organisations, Open Justice Alliance, said on Friday that it has submitted a petition to the National Judicial Council concerning a Court of Appeal ruling which was delivered in the Kano State governorship election between the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the All Progressives Congress. The civil societies noted that they expressed “grave concerns over the gross violation of the Revised Judicial Code of Conduct Federal Republic of Nigeria 2016 by Judicial Officers” during the delivery of judgment in the said appeal.
