Bustos Talks Biofuels and Climate with Secretary of Energy – Advanced BioFuels USA

by Rhiannon Branch (Brownfield Ag News) US Representative from Illinois Cheri Bustos (D-17) continues to advocate for biofuels and the positive role they play in climate change mitigation.
During a House Appropriations Energy and Water Subcommittee hearing last week, Bustos asked Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm how the Biden administration will include biofuels in their plans for net-zero emissions and Granholm says they have a biofuels and bioenergy team working on this.
“Electric vehicles obviously have emerged as this great technology, which they are for light duty vehicles like cars, but pickups and heavy-duty transportation that really need more of an energy density of liquid fuels – that is where biofuels are going to play a critical role.” ....

NCERC Exploring New Uses for Corn – Advanced BioFuels USA

by Rhiannon Branch (Brownfield Ag News) The director of the National Corn to Ethanol Research Center says they have some big research projects in the works paving the way to new uses for US corn.
John Caupert tell Brownfield they are finding more and more products can be made from corn ethanol instead of petroleum.
“The latest would be in polymers. Polymers can range from a plastic bottle that contains drinking water, to carpet fibers, all the way to possibly the fibers that are in clothing.”

“We are taking corn, we are running it through a conventional or a modified corn to ethanol process, then heighten the level of digestible protein in the ethanol co-product which then makes for a very high value, high protein to be utilized in aquaculture diets.” READ MORE ....

“With over 30% of Fortune500 companies making climate neutrality commitments, more and more are going to be looking for carbon offsets to be a part of their plan to get there. The Boston Consulting Group is already stating publicly that they expect to be paying $35 per credit in a few more years and as much as $80 per credit by the end of the decade.” ....
