Meals on Wheels of Amarillo celebrates 50th anniversary in community
For 50 years, the Meals on Wheels of Amarillo organization has provided meals, as well as relationships and care, for homebound seniors in the Amarillo city limits. According to a news release, the organization was initially organized by 12 churches in the area, with 25 volunteers serving 14 seniors in 1971. Since then, the program has exploded, serving more than 330 seniors with more than 450 volunteers. A lot of the organization’s growth has occurred relatively recently.
