Community in Whalley is left furious after council removes 'unsafe' equipment from popular children's park

Swings, climbing frames and a slide were among the unsafe items taken away by Ribble Valley Borough Council on Tuesday morning from the popular play area, which is situated near Calderstones Park.
Now all that remains at the deserted place is bits of broken wood, a noticeboard and a bin.
However, council bosses have since assured residents that brand new equipment should be installed in the summer months for families to enjoy.

Parents have described the removal of the equipment as sickening and are very upset by the loss of their community facility. A campaign has now been launched to reinstall Whalley Moor Playground. ....

Burst water main in Ribble Valley sends 'tsunami cascading' into garden destroying brick wall

A burst water main which left more than 400 properties without water has destroyed a garden wall, almost flooding a villager s home.
On Friday evening one of the main pipelines on Whalley Road burst, flooding Jackie Goodlad s Chapel Rise garden and destroying her garden wall, in yet another incident in what is becoming a long and drawn out saga between United Utilities and residents of Billington in the Ribble Valley,
For months now, people living in the village have been plagued by high water pressure issues, leaking pipes and burst water mains.
The problems have been so disruptive that even the local MP, Nigel Evans has waded in on the issue, which United Utilities insist they are trying to fix. ....
