Black History Month: Fresno educator and activist Richard Keyes rallied for the rights of people of color across California
FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Richard 'Dick' Keyes was a family man, pioneer, poverty fighter, and educator who dedicated his life to moving racial equity forward. In 1968, Fresno State recruited Keyes to build the Black studies and ethnic studies programs. "He had a huge impact on education at Fresno State and equity for Black and Latino students during a time where people weren't really rallying for the rights and for equality for people of color," said Desirae Washington, Keyes' granddaughter.
