Council awards Benson former hospital site, taxpayers are out $400,000, Mayor suggests legal challenge

The former Allen Bennett Hospital site belongs to 313 Memorial Drive, owned by Jim Benson – for now. Greer City Council approved an amended offer for the approximately 10-acre site at the corner of Wade Hampton Boulevard and Memorial Drive in its second reading of the ordinance Tuesday night.

BMW expanding: $200 million press shop and 200 jobs

BMW announced Wednesday that the company is expanding its Greer and Spartanburg County operations with the construction of a new press shop. The $200 million investment will create 200 new jobs. The 219,000-square-foot press shop – located on the BMW Greer campus – will take raw coils of steel, cut them into blanks and stamp sheet metal parts for future BMW models. These components include hang-on parts such as the vehicles’ four doors, fenders, exterior body sides and lift gate.

The toads are back on Main Street in downtown Greer and if you’re wondering who helped bring them back, look no further than 10 year-old Kelsi Kennemore. Kennemore decided they needed to return after being displaced during the city’s streetscape project.  Through research and support of her family, city, and downtown businesses, 16 toads have been installed on and off Trade Street.
