ED: OUR ERIKA TARANTAL REPORTS ON THE FAMILY ON A MISSION TO PASS ALONG THE SKILL. >> BUSY HANDS IN ANDOVER. INSIDE LANDMARK FINISH, KIDS FROM THE NORTH ANDOVER YOUTH CENTER ARE LEARNING A NEW SKILL. WOODWORKING. >> IT’S FUN WORKING WITH ALL THE TOOLS AND I THOUGHT LAST WEEK WAS FUN WHEN WE GOT TO USE THE CNC MACHINE AND WE WERE ABLE TO CREATE OUR OWN DESIGN. >> WE VISITED ON WEEK 4 OF THIS NEW AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM. THE CNC OR COMPUTER NUMERICAL CONTROL MACHINE WAS CHURNING OUT CREATIONS. AT THE CONTROLS, 14-YEAR-OLD BRODY JUNGE. >> KIDS ARE LEARNING PROGRAMMING, MORE RELEVANT TASKS FOR THE FUTURE, RATHER THAN LIKE, ALMOST LIKE OLD SCHOOL METHODS OF WOODWORKING THAT ARE, UM, TEACHING KIDS LIKE WORKING FASTER, SMARTER, SAFER. >> DEANNA AND STEWART JUNGE ARE BRODY’S PARENTS AND THE OWNERS OF THIS CUSTOM CABINETRY COMPANY. THEY SAY BRODY AND YOUNGER BROTHER COLBY STARTED WORKING WITH WOOD AS TODDLERS. IT WAS ORGANIC. >> YOU KNOW, I WAS WORKING IN THE SHOP, DEANNA’S WORKING IN THE OFFICE AND THE KIDS JUST SCREWING THINGS TOGETHER AND WE COULDN’T STOP IT. >> NOW BRODY AND COLBY ARE THE ONES TEACHING THIS PROGRAM. >> AND THEN I’LL JUST ENCOURAGE IT INTO THE CORNERS. >> IT’S REALLY BECOME KIND OF A FAMILY MISSION FOR US TO KIND OF FIND THAT SPARK. IN YOUNGER PEOPLE AND SHARE THIS ABILITY TO MAKE THINGS WITH THEIR HANDS. >> AN ABILITY FEWER AND FEWER PEOPLE SEEM TO HAVE. >> WE HAVE STRUGGLED WITH FINDING EMPLOYEES OVER THE YEARS. AND SO I’VE FOUND MYSELF TEACHING EMPLOYEES. >> RICK GORMAN IS THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE NORTH ANDOVER YOUTH CENTER. HE APPROACHED THE JUNGES HOPING TO OFFER A DIFFERENT SKILL, BUILDING ACTIVITY IN A COVID SAFEWAY. >> PEOPLE WEAR MASKS, WE KEEP THE SOCIAL DISTANCING, WE CAN DO IT BECAUSE THE KIDS NEED THIS. THE KIDS NEED IT FOR THEIR SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL WELFARE. AND MY OPINION IS WE GOT TO DO THIS. >> THANKS TO A GRANT TO THE CENTER AND THE JUNGES FINDING VENDORS WILLING TO DONATE SUPPLIES, THIS 6 WEEK WORKSHOP IS RUNNING AT NO COST TO THE KIDS. >> WE JUST FEEL LIKE, YOU KNOW IT’S OUR WAY OF GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY AND PROVIDING THE SERVICE. >> SO WHAT’S THE BEST PART ABOUT MAKING SOMETHING FROM SCRATCH? THE SATISFACTION WHEN YOU FINISH IT. THE JUNGES SAY THANKS TO TECHNOLOGY, WOODWORKING HOLDS MUCH LESS RISK. THESE YO
