The School Board voted to make that change Monday, when it approved the 2021-22 school calendar.
Under the revised calendar, orientation would take place Aug. 30 and Aug. 31 instead of Sept. 1 and 2. There also would be two early release dates a month rather than the one-hour late starts each Wednesday.
Ripon Superintendent Mary Whitrock noted staff and parents supported making the change in surveys, with parents being 70% for it. While she doesnât know the reasons for the 30% being opposed to it, hypothesizing that it could be because parents think itâs a great day for their kids to sleep in or what theyâre doing is working and/or they have childcare covered, she believes the results were overwhelming.
