Australia: Indian-origin driver jailed for 22 years for killing policemen
A 48-year-old Indian-origin drug-affected and sleep deprived truck driver was jailed on Wednesday for 22 years for ploughing his heavy vehicle into Australian police officers and killing four of them last year on Melbourne's Eastern Freeway, according to media reports.
Mohinder Singh was sentenced in Victoria's Supreme Court after pleading guilty to four counts of culpable driving causing death, three charges of trafficking a drug of dependence, and one charge of possession of a drug of dependence.
Singh was fatigued and drug-affected. He stopped on his route to do a drug deal, before veering into the emergency lane of the freeway in Kew and ploughing his 19-tonne prime mover into officers and their stationary vehicles on April 22 last year, The Age newspaper reported.

Pamplin Media Group - 1946: Gang of boys confess to vehicle robberies

April 15, 1926
When fire last Thursday night destroyed the home of Mr. and Mrs. W.I. Dishman on the Ochoco project, it disclosed to them in no uncertain terms the esteem in which they are held by their neighbors, for on the following evening a meeting of the Grange was called by the master, Fred Koski, which was liberally attended, not only by grangers but by towns people as well, and plans were put under way whereby a new and comfortable house is now being put up on the Dishman ranch and will be ready for occupancy in about a week. This speed was made possible only through cooperation of the neighbors and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Dishman.

Here's a tip: If you fall in love with a stranger online and they say the best way to prove your love is with six figures worth of Xbox gift cards, they're probably not that into you. Or even into video games.
There's a 63-year-old guy named Kenneth Werkau who worked at a Walmart in Moundsville, West Virginia. And during the last four months of 2019, he stole $123,775 worth of gift cards.
He would activate prepaid Mastercards and Xbox gift cards and say they were paid for in cash, but he wouldn't actually put cash in the register.

There are proper terms for the dung of every kind of game animal. This is not something I knew when Steve showed me what he called an otter “toilet” for the first time. It took some convincing to make me believe that such a thing existed, followed by research to confirm the otter deposits its excrements or “spraints” in one place.
There are also terms for where an animal retires to rest. A hare may go to “vault.” A fox kennels, a marten trees, and an otter watches, perhaps after using the restroom.

It was a rainy March day and it was time for a driveabout, so I threw a heavy jacket into the car and headed northwest.
Up N.C. 67 through East Bend, I took the turn that leads across the mighty, muddy Yadkin River and stopped at the Rockford General Store to fuel up on candy. The lady behind the counter and I greeted each other through our masks.
âHowâs business?â I asked.
âSlower than usual, but not bad,â she said.
I wound up with two bags drawn from the storeâs big glass jars: one for chocolates, the other for Cherry Sours and Red Hots â which, I learned, donât actually go together as well as one might think. But they kept me alert.
