Regarding Rob Roper's column of Dec. 20:I'm sure readers would love to hear the specifics of his idea to cut school budgets by about 25%. Does he propose across-the-board cuts (e.g, teaching and administrative positions, transportation, building maintenance and construction, pension funds, etc.)? Or does he prefer slashing line items (all meals, sports, languages, extracurricular activities, special ed, etc.). Perhaps he'll stand up at his town's (Stowe) next meeting and give the details. In his commentary on the 'social cost of carbon,' Rob Roper of the Ethan Allen Institute is critical of the idea of using an estimate of future damages from climate change in calculations made during the development of climate policy. That would put him in a position of living only in the present and not even thinking about the impacts of climate change on future Vermonters.
