Eighteen-year-old Kesean Ford requested 24 hours of furlough to attend West High School’s prom on Saturday. Sixth Judicial District Judge Liz Dupuich denied the request, writing in the ruling that she is concerned about the safety of the public and the teen.
Johnson County Sheriff Brad Kunkel says the electronic monitoring program for pretrial defendants and inmates sentenced to jail time has reduced jail numbers and the program is paying for itself. The inmates sentenced to jail but allowed to be out of custody with a GPS monitor are charged for the monitoring system. The pretrial defendants aren’t charged for the service.
