The complaint claims there are more than a dozen other instances where people have been arrested for drunk driving by Loveland police officers, but blood tests do not back up the charges.
In the past decade, Northern Colorado’s largest cities settled 205 allegations against police. The cost of those settlements was $50 million, roughly enough to fund a police department the size of Boulder’s for a year. That’s according to a KUNC investigation that found a recurring pattern where victims and their families dropped their allegations in exchange for a cash payout.
Some motorists in Florida and Colorado say cops arrested them on suspicion of impaired driving, even though they were sober. In one case, a man was kept in custody for a blood test even after a breathalyzer test came back negative for alcohol consumption.
