Nationwide, this has been a difficult year for everyone, including law enforcement and our first responders. There are ever-increasing demands on our public safety professionals and increased racial, social and political tensions.
We are aware of troubling stories in other parts of the country. We recognize that Holland is not immune to the challenges that exist in other places. But we know the Holland Department of Public Safety has a long history of attracting the highest-quality officers, providing the best training and support, the best equipment and incorporating and implementing the best policies. As city leaders, our trust aligns with the responses received in our most recent citizen survey. We stand in full and unwavering support of the department and our officers.
