Introduced in 1963 in response to the downsized, fourth-generation Ford Fairlane, the Chevrolet Chevelle immediately joined the performance market with an SS model rated at up 375 horsepower. But Chevy took things up a significant notch in 1970 when the optional LS6 V8 turned the Chevelle into a 450-horsepower beast.
