BRAZOS VALLEY, TX — The electric reliability council of Texas conducted an emergency board meeting to share with the public the events that took place during last week's severe cold weather.
The rolling power outages last week lasted 70 hours taking the Lone Star State by storm. ERCOT held a board meeting to explain the events that took place in a detailed presentation.
”One of the most important things about delivering power by electricity, is that at all times the amount of electricity being generated must exactly match the amount of load that the customer has,” said Don Russell, professor at Texas A&M Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - While thousands of Texans continue to be without power, most of the panhandle seems to be in better shape.
The United States is divided by three power grids. The Eastern Grid, the Western Grid and the Texas Grid, also refer to as ERCOT.
“Texas by itself is one of the largest consumer of electricity,” said Dr. Joshua Partheepan, assistant professor of systems of engineering at WTAMU. “That’s one of the primary drivers why Texas wanted to become its own utility.”

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The thermostat in Taylor Albritton's Lenexa home showed 48 degrees at 12:22 p.m., almost four hours after her power went out as part of Evergy's controlled outages across the region.
"I know [Evergy is] not going to pay for my pipes if they're frozen or pay for any food that goes bad, so we're kind of on our own at this point," Albritton said.
The power came back on at 3 p.m.
