The project involves the area from Floyd Avenue to the Venus Circle, Vega Drive intersection. The city is looking to improve pedestrian safety and connectivity between residential areas, commercial developments, and surrounding trail systems on Floyd Avenue. This project is part of the overall Rethink Woodhaven Revitalization Plan.

Three major work contracts — for Park Drive, the Muck Road boat launch and the Canal Towpath Project — were approved by the Rome Board of Estimate and Contract at their Thursday morning meeting.

The recent proposal to reduce membership on the Rome City School District Board of Education from nine to seven members, and a second potential change in terms of service from three to four years, has brought the ire of some district stakeholders.

The first board meeting of the new year is scheduled for Thursday morning at City Hall. Following the Common Council meeting Wednesday night, the board is set to pass through various city expenditures that the council is set to approve. The funding comes from the 2024 budget, and includes such expenditures as $322,932 to the Jervis Public Library Association, $32,224 to the Rome Art and Community Center and $12,160 to the Capitol Civic Center.
