Growth in Sherrills Ford picking up

The Sherrills Ford of today is not the same one Kendra Eades grew up in.
When she drives around the area, Eades spots pieces of land once owned by family and friends now built up with homes and commercial properties. Around every curve, red dirt is turned up as construction crews lay foundations and frame buildings.
The area steadily grew for over two decades, but recent years, and especially the last six months, have shown a sharp spike in growth, Eades said. The population of the area has grown three times faster than the rest of Catawba County, and building permits are five times what they were 10 years ago.

James “Jim” D. Schults
James “Jim” D. Schultz passed away peacefully on Dec. 19, 2020 with his family by his side. A celebration of Jim’s life will be on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 11:00 AM at The Log Church in Crosslake, MN. Visitation will take place one hour prior to services. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Crosslake.
Jim was born in St. Cloud, MN on Dec. 1, 1944 to Deward and Thelma Schultz. His family moved to Minneapolis, MN, where Jim attended Washburn High School and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1966 with a degree in business/marketing. Jim married Jeanne in 1968. He served in the Army Reserves for the next 6 months then accepted a job with Cargill where he worked for 34 years. After taking early retirement from Cargill he went to Washington, DC to work for a trade association and then spent his last year working in the George Bush administration which was a very special time for him and the family. He retired in 2009. After retirement the family moved to their current home on Kimble Lake. Jim was a member at the Log Church in Crosslake where he sang in the choir and praise team. He also served on the Men’s Ministry Team, and on the church elder board. In the community he served on the WAPOA board, the Kimble Lake Property Owners Board, and organized and served with the Kimble lake AIS monitoring. He loved being part of the dialogue about issues in the township and on the lakes. Jim embodied the phrase “he was a friend to all he met,” and will be greatly missed.

1,744-home development approved in Sherrills Ford over objections

Rezoning for a development in Sherrills Ford was approved by the Catawba County Board of Commissioners over the objections of several local residents and against the advice of the planning board.
The proposal approved by the board of commissioners will allow for a 1,744-home development by Prestige Corporate Development to be built on 872 acres between Mollys Backbone Road and Hopewell Church Road. The proposal to rezone the properties from lower-density zoning to a Planned Development Conditional District to allow for more homes to be built was rejected by the Catawba County Planning Board in early December after 12 people spoke against the project. The planning board only advises the county commissioners; the commissioners have final say.
