Ocado Retail, the joint venture with M&S, said fourth quarter sales declined 3.9% year on year, largely because of labour shortages, but were up 31.6% on 2019.
Tesco shares rose 4.5 per cent to 264.24p in early trading, making it the top - and one of the few - risers on the FTSE 100, which otherwise slumped more than 1.5 per cent this morning.
