Community effort prevents disaster as swimmers get dragged out to sea at Kilmore Quay
A post-Leaving Cert party in Kilmore Quay could have ended in tragedy were it not for the interventions of four members of the public on Saturday afternoon. The three young people were swimming at Burrow beach at approximately 3.30 p.m. on Saturday when they drifted out to sea in a strong current. Although this quickly prompted a multi-agency rescue response with the Kilmore Quay RNLI, Kilmore Quay Coast Guard, Rescue 117 helicopter, and the ambulance service arriving on the scene, it was the actions of a group of local people which ultimately prevented disaster.
