State approval is normally a formality, though the board retains right of final approval. Thompson will begin her tenure as the 182-year-old university’s 21st president on July 1. Apr 29, 2021 Westfield State University is choosing a new president. Dr. Linda Thompson is set to begin this summer pending approval from the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education. Thompson has served as the dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at UMass Boston since 2017.
