The ruling DMK party in Tamil Nadu has responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's defense of Sanatan Dharma by citing RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's views on caste structure, equality, and reservation. In an editorial, the DMK's Tamil mouthpiece "Murasoli" quoted Bhagwat's remarks on the need for equality and eradicating discrimination. The party's response comes after Tamil Nadu Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin's controversial remarks on Sanatan Dharma, which were criticized for being discriminatory against Scheduled Castes, tribals, and women.
Oppn had in February this year targeted RSS chief over his statement that caste system was not ordained by God but 'Pandits', following which Sangh clarified that by 'Pandit' he meant 'intellectuals' and not Brahmins
