BIRDWATCH: Scarce Ruddy Duck drops in for a visit on Lake Dore

Article content Back on April 14, Mark Gawn of Ottawa located a scarce Ruddy Duck on Lake Dore. This western duck occasionally passes through our area during the spring and fall migrations but is normally seen only by one or two birders before it flies off. It can be found singing near shrubbery of homes and gardens or near watery ditches along our roads. It also haunts thickets on the edge of woodlots. It is generally absent in deep woods or open, clean fields. We apologize, but this video has failed to load.
