Longest-running Emancipation Day festival returns to Owen Sound for 161st year
From Friday, Aug. 4 to Sunday, Aug. 6, the longest-running Emancipation Day festival in North America at the northernmost terminus of the Underground Railroad will celebrate 161 years in Owen Sound. It's the festival's 161st year, but it's only the third Emancipation Day celebration since the House of Commons passed Bill M-36 in a unanimous vote to officially recognize the day across Canada.
