Rs 2000 Currency Notes Exchange: The RBI last week announced the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 currency notes from circulation but gave the public time till September 30 to either deposit such notes in accounts or exchange them at banks.
As these notes were not printed since FY19 and account for only a minuscule part of the overall currency in circulation, this step will not inconvenience the commoner in any measure. It will also flush out illegally hoarded wealth
As the RBI announced that all Rs 2000 notes are being withdrawn in the country, these rare notes have made a major appearance across market places in Delhi.
The central bank last Friday announced the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 notes, the highest denomination in circulation, but said the currency will remain a legal tender.
The former finance minister also said that withdrawing both the Rs 1000 and Rs 500 currency notes were a grave mistake, one that had not been accepted by the people of the country.
