2 tourists held for P3.6-M marijuana in Mountain Province

SADANGA, Mountain Province – Two tourists from Manila were arrested after were caught with more than P3 million worth of dried marijuana in a police checkpoint in Sitio Ampawelin, Poblacion, this town, Friday.
Police Regional Office-Cordillera chief Police Brig. Gen. Ronald Lee identified the suspects as Louigie Erguiza Param and Bernard Hope Poyaoan Bravo II, both 22-years-old and residents of Sta. Mesa, Manila.
Lee said that prior to their arrest, the Sadanga Municipal Police Station received a tip about marijuana bricks being transported from Kalinga.
Immediately, coordination was made with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Mountain Province and nearby police units for the establishment of a checkpoint in Sitio Ampawilen where they flagged down a black Toyota sedan.

P12-M marijuana, hashish oil seized in Mountain Province

BAUKO, Mountain Province – A suspected member of a syndicate operating a large marijuana distribution network in Luzon was arrested while marijuana and hashish oil valued at P12 million were seized in an interdiction operation conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and Police Regional Office-Cordillera here last Friday.
PDEA Regional Director Gil Castro identified the suspect as Rexton Bangang of Sadanga, this province.
Castro said 99 kilos of marijuana in brick form and 60 milliliters of hashish oil were recovered from the suspect loaded in his Toyota Tamaraw FX.
Castro said Bangang was intercepted during a follow-up operation thru the land transportation interdiction unit, a new technology being used in a police checkpoint against the transport of illegal drugs, after members of a syndicate operating a  marijuana distribution network in Northern and Central Luzon were arrested in two separate anti-illegal drug operations last week.

Mass testing in 5 'critical' barangays in Bontoc starts – Manila Bulletin

MOUNTAIN PROVINCE – Mass expanded testing of all the residents in five barangays in Bontoc tagged as being under the critical zone, and placed under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) was conducted Tuesday, January 26, by the National Inter-Agency Task Force (NIATF), through the Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA.

According to Bontoc Mayor Franklin Odsey, he has already issued an executive order, mandating the free mass testing of all the residents of Barangays Samoki, Bontoc Ili, Caluttit, Poblacion and Tocucan to be able to locate the other possible carriers of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Stricter quarantine levels to be imposed in Tabuk City, other parts of Kalinga

Provincial Legal Officer Ken Martinez said the request to place Tabuk under ECQ is expected to be approved by the regional IATF, and could be implemented on Monday, January 25.
Kalinga Governor Ferdinand Tubban has already posted a public advisory, informing his constituents that the provincial government will be imposing a 14-day ECQ in Tabuk City, and MECQ in the towns of Rizal, Lubuagan, Tanudan and Balbalan.
General community quarantine (GCQ) will be imposed in Pasil and Tinglayan towns, and modified GCQ (MGCQ) in Pinukpuk.
The PIATF said, these areas were classified following the Containment Strategy Matrix provided by the National Task Force and area Health Risk Level Matrix.

77 new COVID cases logged in Mountain Province

The Provincial Health Office said of the 77 new cases, 36 were from Bontoc, 14 in Besao, four in Bauko, six in Sabangan, four in Tadian, and three in Sadanga.
Bauko Mayor Abraham Akilit issued Memorandum No. 2021-18 suspending work in the local government and placing the municipal compound in Barangay Abatan under preventive lockdown Thursday and Friday after seven municipal government employees tested positive for COVID.
Akilit said the lockdown will pave the way for efficient contact tracing and disinfection of the municipal offices and its compound.
Regular services will resume Monday.
Bauko now has 59 confirmed cases, 40 recoveries, and 19 active cases.

Bontoc Mayor tests positive for COVID-19

BONTOC, Mt.Province – Bontoc Mayor Franklin Odsey has informed his “kakailyan (townmates)” that he has tested for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
In his message in the municipality’s social media account, Odsey said: “It is (with a) heavy heart that I inform you of the positive result of my RT-PCR (real time-polymerase chain reaction) test which I received today, January 15.”
“I am asymptomatic and my doctors are closely monitoring my situation, while I am in isolation. The members of my households, as well as my staff, are on self-quarantine, They will be subjected to RT-PCR tests (in) the next few days,” Odsey said.

TINGLAYAN, Kalinga, Jan.12 (PIA) - - The second round of dialogue brokered by Philippine National Police- Cordillera Regional Office for the settlement of tribal boundary dispute between Butbut in Tinglayan, Kalinga and Betwagan in Sadanga, Mountain Province resulted to representatives from both sides agreeing in principle for a “Sipat” or peace pact.
