"Strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Margot is likely to become a hurricane tonight," a National Hurricane Center advisory states.
NOAA has predicted the severity of 2023's hurricane season, which will run between June 1 and November 30.
The storm, named Cyclone Mocha, reached wind speeds of up to 175 mph as it gathered momentum over the Bay of Bengal before making landfall in Myanmar.
Hurricane forecasters believe that Nicole could strengthen further before impacting the coast, bringing storm surges and flash flooding.
