The Supreme Court of Nigeria has affirmed the election of Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue state. The apex court also dismissed an appeal filed by Titus Uba of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the cleric turned politician who belongs to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Uba had challenged the election of Fr. Alia in the March 18, 2023 governorship election in the state.
However, a five-member panel of the Supreme Court led by John Okoro said issues raised in the appeal did not qualify as post-election matters.
