William Carl Moore’s last days weren’t easy. 
Only a few days after his stepdaughters rescued him from a bad living situation, the 70-year-old suffered a seizure and was sent to the hospital. After spending a few weeks in a senior rehabilitation center, he fell sick with COVID-19 less than a day after being released home.  
Moore ended up dying a week later, joining more than 80 Kitsap residents who have died from the virus over the past year. For his two stepdaughters, it was a devastating way to lose the man they lovingly called “Papa Smurf.”
“He always put everyone else first. So I’m angry. I’m angry because this beautiful man deserved so much more,” said Desi Abels, Moore’s stepdaughter-in-law. ....
