MLUNGU Charles Jack soon earned himself the nickname Skhumba after moving to Silver City kasi in Bekkersdal, west of Joburg. He’s known for doing odd jobs around the kasi, and residents love him because he’s quick to help. He cleans yards and does gardening and building jobs. Skhumba, originally from Virginia in the Free State, said he does piece jobs to survive. “People have opened their hearts to me. They give me jobs they feel they can’t do,” he said.
