More passengers flew in or out of John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport last month than during any other May since 2012.
SkyWest Airlines carried 1,196 riders in May to or from either Washington Dulles International Airport or OâHare International Airport in Chicago, according to general manager Samuel Faoliu.
âI think a lot of people are starting to get the word out,â Faoliu said. âInitially, when the service started, a lot of people didnât know that we have jet service coming into Johnstown. Word is getting out now. We have a lot more people.â
SkyWest Airlines, operating as United Express and part of the United Airlines network, started flying out of the local airport in December, which was one of the worst times â in terms of cases and deaths â during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. As the spread of the coronavirus has slowed, the number of passengers using the Cambria County airport has increased.
