When it gets this much rain in this period of time? yeah, here in santa cruz county, we ve had some parts of our county get over 34 inches of rain since the 26th of december. and when you receive that much rain in such a short period of time, the soils, as you acknowledged, are saturated and the flooding is exacerbated and much quicker to happen with even less rain than you would be accustomed to. so we re seeing slope failures and road failures because of the saturation, but we re also seeing the rivers react much more rapidly and dramatically to relatively modest amounts of rain. what kind of calls are you getting? is it a lot related to the flooding? are people being trapped in their homes? are they dealing with mud slides? i think all of the above, unfortunately. you know, we have got a lot of people in our mountain regions where power lines have been severed from falling redwood trees or majestic redwood trees ....

Storm, there s so much saturation in the ground and in the rivers that it s not going to take much for flooding and mudslides to happen. we are currently having a dry moment here, fred, even though when we drove across the golden gate bridge this morning it was pouring. we ve seen video from our affiliates showing the fast-flowing salinas river. we re expecting the russian river to also flood this weekend at some point. so a lot of warnings for people to be safe as they are driving around, be watchful of flooding and of potential mudslides like we saw here, fred. all right. natasha chen, thank you so much. to you now, allison chinchar, in the weather center, how are things looking? how are they going to look? yeah. so, unfortunately, still soggy at least for the next 48 hours, but there may be some light at the end of the tunnel once we get to the end of the upcoming week. in the short term, however, the heaviest rainfall is focussed across northern and central california. but we r ....

In the catchment basins, and we were able to trap a lot of debris and rocks that came down from the hills. we are doing pretty good and unscathed in a lot of ways. we consider it a success that we didn t have any loss of life. yes, and no doubt rescue teams are working around the clock here to help. there are fears of a repeat of the 2018 mudslide, so, is that the last time you have seen it this bad? will all we have never seen rain like this, weather that bad. will i have been here for 22 years. will all to see such a downpour in a short period is unprecedented. i have to say, with the evacuation of people, and following those orders. i m glad people followed those orders because in the event of a mudslide and soil saturation that we had, we were facing a real threat here in our community. but, you know, we responded to over 400 incidents. ....
