West Virginia House Bill 5223 and Senate Bill 571 didn't survive the end of the 2024 state legislative session Saturday. HB 5223 would have created a southern coalfield economic revitalization council, while SB 571 would have set up a Corridor H area-focused energy and economic development authority.
The West Virginia Senate passed a bill, Senate Bill 571, aimed at fostering economic and energy growth in the Corridor H area. But the roadway is unfinished, and the Federal Highway Administration published a notice of intent for a supplemental environmental impact statement for an unfinished portion of the project.
The West Virginia Senate Economic Development Committee approved Senate Bill 571, which would create a board to facilitate economic development in the Corridor H area. The board would include representatives of economic development agencies in Lewis, Upshur, Barbour, Rsndolph, Tucker, Grant and Hardy counties.
