Innocent man freed after 20 years in jail | India News

AGRA: Vishnu Tiwari was 23 when a trial court sentenced him to life imprisonment. He had been convicted of rape and didn’t have the means to hire better lawyers. The only thing he could do was assert time and again that he had not committed the crime. After 20 years, in which time every member of his family died, he has been declared innocent by Allahabad high court.
Senior superintendent of Agra Central Jail VK Singh said, “Vishnu will be released soon. We are waiting for the formal release order. It is unfortunate he had to be in jail for two decades for a crime he never committed.” ....
