Those are related matters whereas it would seem that, for example, the e. jean carroll civil case or the business records fraud civil case that letitia james is pursuing would be a completely separate matter than the mar-a-lago classified documents case. and so maybe even though it s the same defendant, the prosecutors and judges involved in those cases might see themselves as operating in parallel separate universes. absolutely. it s just a question of scheduling. i think the most interesting is going to be the january 6th cases. if you have a fani willis case that is really a subset of what jack smith would bring because have the georgia component in his case, it ll be interesting to see who defers to who. that s whereas you alluded to, ....

To be adjourned, pending the outcome of the federal case. so, it all depends upon the scheduling of this particular case. attorney general of new york essentially predicting that all of the state cases against former president trump will, quote, have to be adjourned pending the outcome of the federal classified documents case, which is now going to trial in florida. that seems like a big deal. what does it mean exactly, though? does this apply to all state cases, criminal and civil? does it preclude court action in any of those cases or just trials? also, is this just boiler plate? is this just customary to defer to federal prosecutions? is this a matter that is mandatory? is this a matter of law? for example, should we expect the georgia prosecutor, fani willis, to hold off on the bringing indictments this summer on account of the federal case? ....

she has enormous power in this case, stephanie. she is the manager of the case and she gets wide discretion to do a lot of things. first and foremost she gets to decide the scheduling of this case. so, i imagine donald trump will want to delay, delay this case as long as possible. as harry said, that will likely be his strategy if he had been representing trump. and judge cannon has the ability to do that. she can find lots of reasons for delay. defense council probably needs security clearances, that will take some time. working through the classified information, crafting a protective order for how they re going to deal with that material at trial. that can take a long time. the other great power that she has, of course, is granting motions. if motions are filed for selective prosecution. for suppression of evidence, both the fruits of the search and the evan corcoran attorney-client testimony. she has the ability to suppress all of that evidence. so, she has a lot of power ....

Willis fulton county investigation into the pressure campaign that was put on georgia officials by trump and his allies along with the fake electors schemes. but, of course, this trial now seems to be front and center and take precedent over some of the other trials. you saw attorney general tisch james say in an interview yesterday that the mar-a-lago documents case and trial was now going to sort of take precedent in terms of some of the scheduling issues that could arise with the former president having to prepare a defense in these myriad cases. and, gabe, just want to let you know that yesterday i caught a lot of the coverage both on msnbc and nbc, the special coverage, and you were just, you know, such a central part of that coverage. and i want to congratulate you, gabe, because you always do great work. what were some of the things that struck you the most? ....
