Reply (Picture postcards of Highland Park business district) Highland Park Historical Society will host The Happy Invention: The History and Significance of Picture Postcards with Katherine Hamilton-Smith on February 24, 2021 at 7:00 pm via Zoom. This event is presented as part of the Illinois Humanities Road Scholars Bureau outreach. The first picture postcards were published for the 1889 Paris Exposition, celebrating the completion of the Eiffel Tower. In America, the first such postcards were printed for the 1893 World s Columbian Exposition in Chicago, making Illinois the birthplace of the American picture postcard.
