Voters will be able to decide whether to approve a new funding levy and separately a bond to build a new gym at the Willmar Middle School.
Falling enrollment has led to the need to reduce the budget for the 2023-24 school year. Enrollment fell at the beginning of the pandemic, rebounded a bit in 2021-22 and has fallen again this year.
Falling enrollment for Willmar Public Schools is likely to lead to budget cuts before the start of the 2023-24 school year. The School Board began the process with adopting a resolution Monday night.
With three former teachers on the School Board, Superintendent Jeff Holm took his chance at Monday's meeting to urge board members to consider subbing for the district. Substitute teachers are needed at all levels, and the district also has numerous openings in permanent positions.
