After dropping for three-straight years, youth crime is once again on the rise across the state of Colorado. Violent crimes rates have especially skyrocketed. 2023 in Weld County alone, there have been three high-profile cases involving minors: a 16-year-old charged with first-degree murder for shooting his 15-year-old ex-girlfriend, a matricide-suicide involving a 15-year-old in Severance, and a double shooting near Sunborn Park in Greeley. But what’s causing these young people to commit such violent crimes?

Unofficial election results Tuesday night indicate Melissa McDonald is likely to join Greeley's city council later this month as the new at-large city council member.
