British Antarctic Survey (BAS) have been awarded a Polar Medal in the 2024 New Year’s Honors List for their contributions to improving our understanding of Antarctica and enduring harsh Antarctic conditions.
A MAN who has worked in the Antarctic and Arctic for over 40 years said he feels honoured to have a mountain named after him. Nicholas Cox, from Underbarrow, near Kendal, has been rewarded by the British Antarctic Survey for his services to polar work by having a 9,700 feet high mountain named after him. “I feel very grateful,” said Mr Cox. “I’ve worked in the Arctic and the Antarctic every year for 45 years."
