“We will establish a Citizens’ Assembly on the Future of Education ensuring that the voices of young people and those being educated are central,” it states.
If Covid-19 has taught us anything, it’s surely that the unthinkable is possible. Whoever thought we could replace the Leaving Cert? Cancel the Junior Cert? Or run schools remotely?

As the deadline for CAO applications approaches tomorrow, students are calling for clarity on this year's State exams.
Discussions on whether the traditional Leaving exams will go ahead in 2021 are set to continue this week.
It comes after the Education Minister Norma Foley and an exams advisory group met on Friday, hearing from student groups, parents, teachers and school managers.
The Irish Second-Level Students' Union have called for students to be given a choice between calculated grades or sitting the exams.
Union President, Ruben Murray, told
Newstalk that Leaving Cert students want a choice.
"We did a survey of over 25,000 students and one of the things that came back very clearly was that the communication from the Department [of Education] is not strong enough and it needs to improve," he said.

Louth TD Peter Fitzpatrick has said a decision needs to be made by the Government on the future of the Leaving Cert exams by the end of the month.
The Dundalk TD called on the Department of Education to give students clarity as to whether the State exams could go ahead or whether they would be cancelled and replaced by calculated grades.
Deputy Fitzpatrick said Education Minister Norma Foley has the opinion that the Leaving Cert “must go ahead at all costs” but he insisted it is the “wrong message” to send out and alternatives need to be put in place in case it is not safe for the exams to take place due to Covid-19.
