Haitians abroad, especially in the U.S., want to participate and commit to a better future for Haiti. But the structures aren't there, this latest crisis highlights.

The slow-moving effort to deploy an armed multinational mission to help Haiti’s police force combat warring gangs has garnered an additional $120 million in commitments, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said.

In addition to funds, the security mission also needs equipment and according to some expats, more bodies. For now, the mission is expected to have 2,500 officers fielded from Kenya, Jamaica, The Bahamas and other Caribbean and African nations.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced on Thursday that the US intends to provide $200 million to the multinational security support mission in Haiti. He said that funding will go to support the Haitian national police “with planning, with intelligence, with airlift capacity, communications, and medical equipment and services.”
