Well, not so nice way to put it, but they re sellouts. they re sellouts. there were people in my class that came in with me in 1994 who were fighting for deficit reduction. we balanced the budget four years in a row and they were tough as hell when bill clinton was in the white house. it will second george w. bush got in the white house, whatever he asked for, they rolled over and gave it to him. they didn t care. suddenly the thing that drove them the most to run for office, they completely surrendered because you had a republican in the white house and bob costa, it s repeating itself. i just sit here, then i m wondering what do people like ted cruz who shut down the government if 2013 over spending increases, what do people like ted cruz think when the president of the united states says that the sequester was a dangerous idea. where are these people today? ....

One of my all time favorite game shows. but let s bring it to reality. is it coming to washington, to the hill? stephanie, what are we even going to talk about when we don t have government shootdowns looming? i promise we ll find something. this is a big, big deal struck in the senate right now and it looks like it will have the votes to get through the senate. it gets a lot accomplished. the main thing it does is blow through the sequester that was put in place during the obama administration, raises the top-line spending levels, both for the department of defense, which republicans are very happy to see, about $165 billion over the next two years. $131 billion in new domestic spending. some of that earmarked to things like building new va facilities, opoid treatments, things like that. it takes care of the disaster reliefs hanging out there. and kicks the debt ceiling up and extends that past the 2018 midterms. they don t want to be taking another vote on that closer to ....

You re looking at live pictures coming from the white house briefing room. we ve just been told that james mattis, the defense secretary, will be introduced by sara sanders at the top of this briefing. he will make a statement, answer reporters questions, presumably on two subjects, the senate decision to go ahead and work out this bipartisan budget agreement, which will increase defense spending by about $160 billion. it will also eliminate the sequester, something the pentagon and military has always hated, to keep a tab on defense spending. he ll also speak about the president now giving orders for the defense department to plan a military parade through the streets of washington, d.c. the president says he was very ....

all right. let s discuss this and more with our panel. john kirby, you re a retired u.s. admiral. what do you think? what are we going to hear from the defense secretary? he s going to be speaking first at this upcoming briefing in the next few minutes. i can t remember the last time a secretary of defense went to a white house briefing, a daily briefing, to open it up. that s incredible to me. mr. mattis is not really doing a lot of press briefings in his own pentagon. this is remarkable. i suspect the purpose is to talk about this budget deal and to laud it and try to encourage quick passage of it. he was on capitol hill yesterday testifying about the nuclear review and was very eloquent about the damage these continuing resolutions and sequester has been doing to military readiness training and maintenance. i think that s his main purpose. i don t think he s going to talk about the parade, but i have no doubt that he ll get asked about it. when asked about it, i suspect he ll ....

Deal. shannon: a.b., this is something republicans have talked about for decades. they don t like government took up big government and spending lots of money. i like the parties coming together. where this ends up that we have no idea. the parties never agree on fiscal discipline. they agree on spending more. when it gets too hot in the room, they go, let s throw money on it let go. that s the makings of a deal. the super committee of 2011 was a joke. lead to a sequester. now there is not going to be any sequester. no spending cuts because they can t agree on where it should be shrunk. it s going to be tough for republicans politically. they want to turn out their base of support in the midterm elections. voters are happy about the tax reform bill but it affected the deficit. they are going to be looking at a two year of time where they ....
