Yarmouth, MA Police Sergeant Sean Gannon was shot and killed Thursday, April 12, 2018 while assisting with a warrant being served in Barnstable. Sgt. Gannon and his K-9 Nero were searching the home and located the wanted man in a closet. The man opened fire, killing Sgt. Gannon and wounding Nero.
BARNSTABLE — The trial for the man accused of killing Yarmouth police Sgt. Sean Gannon will be held in Barnstable Superior Court, a judge ruled last week. Thomas Latanowich is facing a murder charge for allegedly shooting Gannon and his K-9 partner, Nero, while the officer was serving an arrest warrant for Latanowich in Marstons Mills in 2018. Latanowich's attorney, Joseph Krowski, requested the trial be moved to an off-Cape court, arguing that it was impossible to get an impartial trial on Cape Cod.
